| Administrative History | Marple was formerly a township and chapelry in the ancient parish of Stockport. In 1860 the new parish of High Lane St. Thomas was formed from parts of the Townships of Marple, Poynton and Torkington, and part of the district chapelry of Norbury. Part of Marple township became the new parish of Low Marple St. Martin in 1870, and a district comprising the remainder of Marple township was assigned to Marple All Saints' Church in 1876.
St. Paul's Church, Strines, was built as a mission church in the parish of High Lane St. Thomas, and licensed for the performance of divine service in 1880. It was transferred to the parish of Marple All Saints in 1934 when the boundaries of the two parishes were altered. |
